Honestly, co-op in Pokemon Violet kinda limits the guest players. You can't progress your story or keep certain items when joining another's game. Better off playing solo if you ask me.

Co-op in Pokemon Violet is awesome because you can literally play the entire game with a friend. BUT, remember, only the host's story progression gets saved. So if you're helping a friend, your game won't update with those milestones.
