Evolving Gengar in Pokemon Violet is just like in the other games â you gotta trade Haunter! Find someone you trust, trade your Haunter to them, and it'll evolve into Gengar as soon as the trade is completed. Just make sure you get your new Gengar back after!

Just trade! Haunter evolves into Gengar when it gets traded. No special items or conditions needed. Find a friend or a friendly online community to help out.

I've always thought the whole 'trade to evolve' thing was a pain. But yeah, to get Gengar, you need to trade Haunter. No way around it, unfortunately.
