It's a possibility. Sony has been progressively winding down support for older consoles, and server outages do happen. Check the PlayStation status page for the latest updates!

PS3 servers are still up as of my last game session yesterday. Maybe there's some maintenance going on?

No idea, but my PS3 has been acting weird lately too. Try a restart or check your internet connection!
