Filler episodes usually get a bad rep, but some of Naruto Shippuden's fillers are genuinely worth watching. The Chunin Exam arc (episodes 394-413) gives great background on side characters.
From my experience, the 'Power' arc (episodes 290-295) is definitely a filler to watch. It has great action and animation!
Honestly, most fillers are skippable. Stick to the main story unless you have a lot of time to kill.
