Speaking from experience, the Xbox 360 controller doesn't work with iPhones due to compatibility issues. Stick to newer Xbox controllers for mobile gaming.

Unfortunately, you can't directly connect an Xbox 360 controller to an iPhone. The 360 uses older wireless technology that's not compatible with iOS.
