Honestly, Yakuza 0 gives enough backstory to understand Kiwami, so it's skippable. But it's such a great game, why would you?

You can skip Yakuza Kiwami, but you'll miss the foundation of Kiryu's story and some epic fights. It's totally worth playing for the full experience.
Yakuza Kiwami is a remake of the first Yakuza game, so you'll miss out on Kazuma Kiryu's origin story if you skip it. But hey, if you're short on time, you could jump to Yakuza 0 for a prequel experience and then go to Yakuza Kiwami 2. Just know you'll miss some context!
