Yeah, you can kinda play as a cop in GTA 5 but not in the official story mode. You gotta get creative. Dress your character in a police uniform, which you can find in the game, and then, just hop into a cop car. Voila, you're practically a cop. Bonus points if you roleplay and start chasing down NPCs breaking the law. It's all about that imagination, my friend.

Actually, if you're into mods, there's this cool thing called LSPDFR (Los Santos Police Department First Response) mod for GTA 5. It lets you play as a cop, complete with missions, traffic stops, and all that police jazz. It's pretty immersive and as close as you can get to actually being a police officer in the game. Just make sure you're doing this on PC, mods aren't really console-friendly.

Nope, can't officially be a cop in GTA 5. The game doesn't have a feature that lets you be a police officer as a career choice. It's all about that criminal life.
