I tried it myself and unfortunately, Xbox 360 controllers just aren't compatible with Xbox One. I had to upgrade my controllers.

Nope, Xbox 360 controllers won't work directly on an Xbox One. You'd need an adapter, like the Brook Super Converter, to make it happen.
