I tried setting up a cross-platform competitive match with my friends once—ended up just having to settle for casual mayhem. Sad but true, hopefully change comes soon!

You can play Overwatch cross-platform in casual modes, but competitive mode is not available for cross-platform play. So, you'll need to stick to playing with friends on the same console or PC for those competitive matches.
