Nope, for official play, it's a hard no. MTG rules state a minimum of 60 cards in the main deck. Anything less, and you're technically not playing by the book. Keep it casual with a 50 card deck, but for any sanctioned event, bulk it up to 60.

I tried running a 50 card deck at my local game night, thinking I could streamline my strategy. Worked great against my friends, but when I took it to a more official setting, I had to add 10 more cards to participate. Lesson learned: it's fun for casual play but stick to 60 for anything serious.

Technically, you CAN run a 50 card deck in casual play or among friends if everyone agrees, but in official Magic The Gathering (MTG) tournaments, the minimum deck size is 60 cards, not counting your sideboard. So, for kitchen table magic? Sure, have at it! Just don't show up to a tournament with it expecting to play.

If you're an MTG player, you need to download the Playbite app!

Playbite is like an arcade in your phone: you get to play all kinds of fun and simple games, compete with friends and others, and win cool prizes from all your favorite brands!

One of those prizes is a pack of MTG cards, which you can win and get sent to you essentially for free!

In case you鈥檙e wondering, this is how it works:

Playbite makes money from (not super annoying) ads and (totally optional) in-app purchases. The app then uses that money to reward players like you with prizes!

Download Playbite for free, available on the App Store and Play Store!
