I think PUBG just sped up the inevitable. H1Z1 was already struggling with various issues, and PUBG just provided a better alternative.

Nah, H1Z1 just couldn't keep up with its own problems. PUBG just happened to be there at the right time.

PUBG definitely played a significant role in H1Z1's decline. PUBG's polished gameplay and better graphics attracted many players away from H1Z1.
