Nope, characters from the original Plants vs Zombies game don't automatically transfer to Plants vs Zombies 2. However, a lot of the classic plants and zombies make a return in the sequel, so you'll see some familiar faces. You'll need to unlock them as you progress through the game.

Not exactly, your progress or characters from the first PvZ game don't carry over to PvZ 2. But don't worry, you get to meet and unlock many of the original gang alongside new ones as you play through PvZ 2.
No, they do not. Think of it as a fresh start with new adventures!
Honestly, I wish. Starting fresh has its charms, but grinding again for my faves was a bummer. At least there's plenty of new stuff to keep things interesting.
