Yeah, wishful thinking! But no, ships have separate cargo holds.
Nope, each ship's cargo hold is its own personal space. No sharing allowed.
Just checked in my game, and yep, you'll have to switch ships to access different cargo holds. Bit of a hassle but keeps you organized!
