You definitely need Xbox Live Gold if you want to enjoy the full multiplayer experience in 2K22, but for single-player modes, it's not required.

As someone who's been grinding 2K22, I can confirm you need Xbox Live Gold for online play, but solo ballers are free to go without it.

Yes, if you want to play NBA 2K22 online with friends or other players, you'll need an Xbox Live Gold subscription. For offline modes like MyCareer or playing against AI, you don't need Xbox Live.
