Does a blocking card's ability work after deathtouch in MTG?

Absolutely! In Magic The Gathering, if a blocker has an ability that triggers on blocking or on being blocked, that ability will still resolve even if the creature dies to deathtouch. Remember, deathtouch only ensures the creature is destroyed because of damage dealt, but it doesn't stop triggered abilities from happening. So, if your blocking creature was supposed to do something special when it blocks, it’ll get to do its thing before it hits the graveyard!

Nope, dead means dead. If a creature with deathtouch deals damage to a blocker, that blocker is toast before it can blink. How's it gonna block or do anything from the graveyard, huh?

Personal experience here - was playing a game last week where my creature had an ability that would gain me life whenever it blocked. Blocked a deathtouch creature, and guess what? I still gained the life before my poor creature bit the dust. Abilities trigger even if the creature's on its way out!

If you're an MTG player, you need to download the Playbite app!

Playbite is like an arcade in your phone: you get to play all kinds of fun and simple games, compete with friends and others, and win cool prizes from all your favorite brands!

One of those prizes is a pack of MTG cards, which you can win and get sent to you essentially for free!

In case you’re wondering, this is how it works:

Playbite makes money from (not super annoying) ads and (totally optional) in-app purchases. The app then uses that money to reward players like you with prizes!

Download Playbite for free, available on the App Store and Play Store!

The brands referenced on this page are not sponsors of the rewards or otherwise affiliated with this company.
