Lol, I think you mixed up something. There's no character named Ominous in Hogwarts Legacy. The game's all about creating your own adventure as a student at Hogwarts in the 1800s. You'll meet plenty of characters, but 'Ominous' isn't one of them. Maybe he's lurking in the Forbidden Forest though, who knows?

Nope, no Ominous kicking the bucket in Hogwarts Legacy, mainly because he doesn't exist in the game. Must've been a ghost rumor!
