I've been using PayPal for years and only had to give my SSN when I started selling stuff and hit tax thresholds. So unless you're planning to be the next online mogul, you're probably in the clear.

Nope! Regular personal accounts don't need your SSN unless you're handling business transactions above $20K a year.
