Nah, The Abyss doesn't target. It's old-school MTG wording that gets ya! Each upkeep, it forces the player to sacrifice a creature, but it doesn't specifically target any creature. So, if your creatures have shroud or hexproof, they aren't safe from The Abyss. Sneaky, right?
Actually, I think The Abyss is a bit overrated. Sure, it doesn't target, making it seem all-powerful, but any smart player with the right strategy can work around it. There are plenty of ways to counteract or avoid its effect.
