In many cases, especially when things start and stop, work done on an object does equal the change in its kinetic energy. Think of pushing a sled; the work you do pushing equals its kinetic energy when it zooms off!

Nope, work is not always kinetic energy. Sometimes it makes things hot, sometimes it lifts stuff up. It鈥檚 complicated!

From my experience working with physics problems, work generally translates into a change in kinetic energy, especially in frictionless scenarios. But it's more accurate to say work changes the total energy.

Work doesn't always equal kinetic energy. When you do work on an object, you can change its kinetic energy, but work can also go into potential energy or overcome friction.
