In my experience, I had to get a rechargeable battery pack separately. The controller comes with standard AA batteries by default.

Nope, the Xbox Series X controller comes with AA batteries, not rechargeables. You'll need to buy a separate rechargeable battery pack or use your own rechargeable AAs.
