Hate to break it to ya, but Don and Sonny aren't from the Animal Crossing universe. You might be thinking of Don Resetti, though! He's Mr. Resetti's more laid-back brother who also pops up when you reset the game without saving. As for Sonny, there's no bell ringing. Maybe it's a case of mistaken identity with another game character?
