Demons in Demon Slayer are ranked mainly into the Twelve Kizuki, or Twelve Moons. The Upper Moons are the top six and way stronger than the Lower Moons. Muzan Kibutsuji, the demon leader, handpicks these elite demons based on their strength and abilities.

The ranking system for demons revolves around the Twelve Kizuki. Upper Moons (1-6) are the most powerful, and Lower Moons (7-12) are not as strong. Muzan Kibutsuji personally selects and ranks them.

Upper Moons and Lower Moons. Upper Moons do all the heavy lifting, while Lower Moons are just trying to keep up.

The most powerful demons are the Upper Moons (1-6). Muzan trusts them to be the heavy hitters. The Lower Moons (7-12) are lower down the pecking order but still formidable.
