You can either deactivate your account temporarily or delete it permanently. For deletion, go to Settings & Privacy > Settings > Your Facebook Information > Deactivation and Deletion, and choose 'Delete Account'.
Just Deactivate it in Settings & Privacy if you're not ready to say goodbye forever.
If you want a break, just log out and forget about it for a while. No need to go nuclear every time!
