You can follow more people on Hay Day by connecting your game to Facebook. Just go to the settings menu and look for the Facebook icon. Once connected, you can add your Facebook friends who also play Hay Day!

You can also follow more people in Hay Day by joining a neighborhood. Head over to the Neighborhood House, and join or create a neighborhood. You can then follow and interact with your fellow neighborhood members!
I found that using the Friends Book is super helpful. Tap on your roadside shop, then the little book icon in the top right corner. You can follow visitors who buy from your shop or visit their farms and follow them directly!
Just connect to Facebook. Problem solved.
