Having tried it myself, solar cells get pretty useless beyond 150-200 meters even with good sunlight during the day.

You can effectively use solar cells up to around 200 meters deep in Subnautica, but they work best above 100 meters.

Solar cells kinda suck after 200 meters depth. Just stick to shallower bases to keep them running well.
