Actually, Oda started out planning for One Piece to last only 5 years. He had the ending figured out but guess what? The world and characters he created were too good, and the fan love too strong, so here we are, decades later, still chasing after the One Piece with Luffy and his crew.

Oda was into pirates, simple as that. Mixed in his love for Akira Toriyama鈥檚 Dragon Ball and you've got the perfect recipe for One Piece. Not rocket science, just pure passion and a sprinkle of genius!

Oda-sensei, the genius behind One Piece, was inspired by Viking stories he loved as a kid. Imagine, from Vikings to pirates, talk about a leap! He wanted to create a story about adventure and friendship, peppered with epic battles and a treasure so grand, it would spark the ultimate quest. That's how the vibrant world of One Piece, with Luffy and his crew setting sail for the Grand Line, came to be!
