Tried it myself! No dice on changing the sound just for the game. You gotta fiddle with the phone's settings instead.
Unfortunately, Words with Friends doesn't have a built-in option to change the notification sound. You'll have to change your general notification settings in your device's settings.
You can't directly change the game notification sound within Words with Friends itself. You'll have to go through your phone's notification settings.
