You have to remove every member first, then leave the group yourself. Facebook will automatically delete it when the last member leaves.
Personal experience: I had to click the 'Members' tab and manually remove each one. Only then could I leave the group myself, thereby deleting it.
Go to the group, click on the 'Members' tab, and remove every member one by one. Once you're the last one standing, click on the 'Leave Group' button – poof, it's gone!
