If you have a backup, just uninstall and reinstall WhatsApp. During setup, it'll ask you to restore from a backup. Voila, messages recovered!
If you use Google Drive for backups, make sure it's enabled and then reinstall the app. You'll get an option to restore your chats. Easy peasy!
