How do I get off Facebook?
To deactivate your account, go to Settings > Your Facebook Information > Deactivation and Deletion. After that, click Deactivate Account and follow the prompts. Easy peasy!

To permanently delete, head to Settings > Your Facebook Information > Deactivation and Deletion. Choose Delete Account and click Continue to Account Deletion. Make sure to download any data you want to keep!
I went cold turkey and just did it through the settings. Haven't looked back! Life is simpler without all the notifications.
Just deactivate the account if you want to take a break. Deleting is a bit drastic, IMO.
