To use Candy XL in Pokemon GO, go to the Pokémon you want to power up, then tap 'Power Up' - if you have enough Candy XL, it will use that instead of regular candy.

Candy XL is for powering up Pokémon above level 40. Just go to your Pokémon’s details screen and hit the Power Up button as usual.

I'm a level 41 trainer, and using XL Candy is pretty simple! Just select the Pokémon you want, tap Power Up, and if you have the required XL Candy, it'll use it.
