Just hit up the Settings menu, find the Controls section, and change it to Keyboard + Mouse. Boom! WASD control!

You don't need WASD. The mouse works just fine and keeps the game simple.

From experience, it made the game a lot smoother for me. Go to Settings > Controls > Keyboard + Mouse!
