On Android, just open WhatsApp, tap the three dots, go to Settings > Chats > Chat backup, and hit 'Back Up'. Make sure you have Google Drive set up!

If you鈥檙e using iOS, go to WhatsApp, then Settings > Chats > Chat Backup and tap 'Back Up Now'. You'll need iCloud for this.
Why bother backing up? WhatsApp encrypts everything, so it's not like someone else will have access if you lose something!
I backup my chats every week to Google Drive by going to WhatsApp settings and tapping 'Back Up'. Never lost a message!
