You can't deactivate Messenger without deactivating your Facebook account first. Deactivate Facebook, then hit the 'Legal & Policies' section in Messenger. Easy-peasy!

Just deactivate your Facebook account and you'll get the option to deactivate Messenger too. Simple as that.

Deactivated my FB last month. After that, went to Messenger app, tapped on profile, Legal & Policies, and BOOM鈥攄eactivated it. Worked like a charm!

First, you gotta deactivate your Facebook account itself, otherwise Messenger won't budge. Go to settings, click 'Your Facebook Information', then 'Deactivation and Deletion'. Choose 'Deactivate Account', follow the prompts, and confirm. After that, open Messenger, go to your profile picture, select 'Legal & Policies', and hit 'Deactivate Messenger'. Done and dusted!
