Honestly, just talk to your villagers and do the events. The game pretty much guides you into cooking without making it a chore. It's more fun discovering it as you play, IMO.
Cooking in AC? Overrated. Just enjoy the island life and eat fruit straight from the trees. Who needs a kitchen?
