Gotta play A LOT of matches! For example, Mewtwo unlocks after 20 hours of combined versus play (you can cheat by leaving the game on overnight).

I remember unlocking Young Link by beating Classic Mode with 10 different characters...it took a while, but totally worth it!

Just use the cheat code - kidding! For a real answer, beat Adventure Mode with any character to get Jigglypuff.

You can unlock characters in Super Smash Bros Melee on the GameCube by completing certain challenges, like playing a specific number of matches or finishing Classic Mode with specific characters. For example, you can unlock Marth by completing Classic Mode with all the original 14 characters!
