My preferred method: load it in your Seamoth or Prawn Suit torpedo bay. When you're in hot water, hit the fire button and boogie on outta there.
I find it best to keep a few in my inventory. When things get hairy, just release one and swim away quickly. Saved my bacon more than once!
Simple! Load the creature decoy into your vehicle's torpedo bay or carry it in your inventory. When a big meanie like a Reaper is chasing you, release it, and watch them get distracted while you make your escape!
