Affinity, aka XP, is earned by killing enemies and completing objectives. Equip an Affinity Booster to double your gains, or play endless missions for more rewards.
Just get an Affinity Booster and you're golden. Everything you do will grant double XP.
From personal experience, running missions with teammates seems to ramp up the XP gain a lot faster. Teamwork for the win!
