From what I saw in the anime, Boruto survived because Momoshiki, an Otsutsuki, had implanted his Karma in him, granting him miraculous recovery powers.
In the series, Momoshiki Otsutsuki鈥檚 Karma mark essentially revives or heals Boruto, giving him a second lease on life.
