Subnautica took about five years to develop before its official release in 2014. That's a lot of deep-sea diving!

I think it was around 4 years. These underwater worlds don't build themselves!

Development for Subnautica started around 2011 and it was released in late 2014, so roughly three years.

The game was in early access for a while too, so they kept improving it even post-release. Altogether, about five years.
