How long does Fallout Shelter continue running after I close the app?
Fallout Shelter keeps ticking along nicely even when you're not actively playing. The game functions in real-time, so it doesn't really 'pause'. Your dwellers will continue generating resources, and babies will grow up into adults, for a bit after you close the app. However, after about 3 minutes, the game kinda enters a 'stasis' mode where resource consumption and production significantly slow down. So, you don't have to worry too much about coming back to chaos if you've left your vault in good shape!

Honestly, if you close the app for a few minutes or a few hours, it doesn't make much of a difference. The vault takes care of itself pretty well. Just make sure your resource levels are good before you log off, and you'll be fine.
It pretty much stops all major activities after 3 minutes. Don't worry about your vault dying off if you're not logged in 24/7.
