I played it last year and counted 49 galaxies, with 242 total levels when you factor in all the stars. Totally worth it for all the fun!
Super Mario Galaxy 2 has 49 galaxies with a total of 120 Power Stars to collect, plus an additional 120 Green Stars for a grand total of 242 levels if you want to 100% complete the game!
242 levels, including Green Stars. It's a lot of jumping and spinning!
