To add a best friend in Animal Crossing, you first gotta visit each other's islands! Make sure you're both online and one of you opens your gate at the airport to invite the other. After visiting, you'll find each other in your Nintendo Switch's Friend List. From there, open your NookPhone in the game, select the Best Friends app, and then send a Best Friend request to your buddy. Easy peasy!
