To do a backwards long jump in Super Mario 64 DS, find a staircase or slope. Face away from it, long jump, and quickly press back on the D-pad or the joystick. Timing is key!

As someone who's tried this a lot, you'll need to jump with the Y button, aim backwards with the D-pad, and hope you nail the rhythm. It's tricky!

Short answer: You can't. They removed it in the DS remake. Nintendo knew we were having too much fun!
