Don't waste time on college. Just become a Writer straight from high school! It's a bit of a gamble, but it worked for me.
First, focus on getting your smarts stat as high as possible! Study hard in school and head off to university; major in English or something similar. After that, get a job as a Writer (under the Jobs tab), work hard, and you'll become an author in no time!
Make sure to read books and visit the library often to keep those smarts high! Once you've got a good education, look for the Writer job in the Careers section.
