Honestly, just make a Close Friends list. Put only the people you want to see your story on it, and post your story to that list. Way easier!

Easy peasy! Go to your profile, tap the three lines in the top right, select 'Settings,' then 'Privacy,' and finally 'Story.' From there, you'll see 'Hide Story From,' and you can just select the people you want to block from seeing your story. Done and done!
