From the main screen, click the 'Settings' gear icon, and you can change your chat preference to either Quick Chat or Free Chat. Easy peasy!

You can switch chat modes in the settings menu before you join a game. Just select either Quick Chat (for easy, pre-set messages) or Free Chat (for typing whatever you want).
