You need to trade with your companion first. Give them the new clothes, then go into their inventory and equip it for them.
Click on your companion, select 'Trade Gear,' and then give them the new clothes. Make sure to equip it while you're in their inventory!
Why even bother? Just let them wear what they have! Gameplay matters more than looks, right?
Don't waste time! All you have to do is transfer the new clothes to your companion and then equip it from their inventory. Bam, fashion show!
