You need a tiny screwdriver for it. Remove the screw on the back, replace the old battery with a fresh LR44, then close it up.
Personal experience here: make sure you use an LR44 battery and avoid over-tightening the screw when putting it back together. I learned that the hard way.
Use a precision screwdriver, open the back panel, replace the dead LR44 battery, and reassemble. Don't forget to reset your Tamagotchi!
Come on, it's just a toy! Take out the dead battery and put a new one in. Easy peasy.
