Changing modes is about choices, not an actual in-game switch. Be kind or be ruthless; Undertale adapts to you.
If you want the true Pacifist mode, you must complete a Neutral run first and then reload your save to go back and befriend everyone!
Wanna go full Genocide? Make sure to defeat every monster in each area until no more spawn. It's intense but rewarding!
Modes in Undertale: Pacifist = Spare everyone, Genocide = Kill everyone, Neutral = Mix and match. Pretty simple, really.
